Tips for marketing your art:

Subject: Focus and Consistency

Some years ago I started each New Year with a word that would become my word for the year. The first year I started with the word 'FOCUS'. The idea being, that I was to focus more on the task in hand. Some people call it mindfulness, awareness, or 'in the now'.
A few years later my word for the year, yes, you guessed it, it was CONSISTENCY!
Because what I found initially; focus was great to start with, but without consistency there was no point.
For instance: does your mind wander when you're having dinner with your family and you're thinking about the money you owe, or what's happening in your art studio, or stuff that happened at the office today, instead of listening to your children, or partner or just concentrating on the wonderful food you're eating.
I know, we all do it!

But here's a simple exercise - let's just start by really focussing on the conversation and the food - let all the other stuff go....for now.
It's not enough do this for just one or two meals. Make it a policy to do it for every meal. This is where the consistency comes in.
You might ask, what has this got to do with art marketing magic?
To be successful in social media or any type of marketing, you need to focus on the quality of your posts e.g.
  • The images need to be cropped, the quality of the lighting when you take the shot and the content of your post. There is no point posting on your favourite social platform just when you feel like it, you need to have some sort of plan.
  • Plan to post at least 3 times per week, more if you can.
  • And that's it!
Even though it's simple, it is difficult to keep the consistency going, unless you have a plan. I have developed a method for you to keep track of your consistency, I call it my DMO...my 'Daily Method of Operation'.
It's an E-Book you can download and it's available when you become a 'Founding ArterNet Art Member' (FAM).
You can also use one part of your DMO to track and record the level of awareness at each family meal. For instance:
  • Each day - Awareness at dinner; Yes, or No, you tick which one and rate your awareness from 1 to 5.
  • 1.. means your mind drifted, or you forgot.
  • 5.. means you were totally focussed on what everyone was saying and you were engaging.
  • It's interesting to look back and measure your progress.
